Executive members meeting

group_pictureIslamabad (May 22, 2015): Meeting of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the KOICA Alumni Association of Pakistan (KAAP) was held on 22nd May 2015 in Islamabad Club. The Resident Representative KOICA Pakistan Mr. Sung Choonki, Dr. Akram Shaikh President KAAP, Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor KAAP Member, Dr. Athar Qayyum Qazi Dr. Samina, Asadullah, Mirza Nwaz, Mr. Nasir Warraichand Mr. Mohsin Khan and Abdul Rehman. Program Coordinators attended the meeting.

The agenda of the meeting was KOICA’s Training Programs & Its implications for Socio-economic development in Pakistan, ideas/suggestions or projects which should be initiated or implemented in Pakistan, enhancing Participation of Alumni, the role of KOICA alumni in the projects implemented by the KOICA in Pakistan and how to increase effective and efficient coordination among alumni? Mr. Sung and Dr. M. Akram Shaikh briefly introduced about the KOICA activities, success stories in development aid projects, technical programs, KAAP and Education support fund for poor students and future projects in Capacity building of youth bases small medium enterprises in Pakistan. Mr. Mohsin Khan Program Coordinator KOICA briefed about scholarship program announced for government officials for the year 2015. In Pakistan, KOICA activities have focused on the vocational skills development, education, health, water and sanitation related sectors. For instance, Pak-Korea Capacity Building Institute for Water Quality Management at PCRWR, Islamabad, Provision of Water Supply Schemes in Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab & Waste Water Treatment facility in Patoki, District Kasur Punjab. It is expected that these projects will contribute in the socio-economic development of Pakistan and will perform an important role in exchange of technology and cultural relations between the two friendly countries.  Mr. Sung said that Korea would continue its efforts in pursuit of social uplift projects in Pakistan. He also acknowledged the role of KOICA Pakistan Office in providing an effective forum for future collaboration between two brother counties in every walk of life and extend full technical and financial cooperation for improving standard of living of people of Pakistan.

First KAAP Project in Punjab Pakistan

koica_project(April 30th, 2015-Islamabad KOICA Office) In the history of KOICA Pakistan, First MoU has been signed between KOICA Alumni Association of Pakistan (KAAP) and The Dongbu Engineering Company Ltd of the Republic of Korea for conducting Socio-economic Baseline and provision of WASH and Community Development Training in Pattoki district Kasur. The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Pakistan in collaboration with the Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department (HUD & PHED) of Government of Punjab is establishing Waste Water Treatment Plant in Pattoki of District Kasur. The Dongbu Engineering Company Ltd (DB ENG) of the republic of Korea is the Official Project Management Company (PMC). The KOICA Alumni Association of Pakistan (KAAP) along with KOICA Pakistan staff will conduct a baseline survey for identifying socio-economic condition, community needs to provide inclusive trainings in Health, Water, Sanitation and mobilization for launching Saemaul Undong-Korea’s New Village Movement (Development of Model Town) and  as well as providing strategic recommendation and guidelines for implementing Saemaul Undong-People’s based Community development programs in targeted areas.

This project aims to improve sanitation and health condition, imparting self-realization, diligence and cooperation in more than hundred community leaders in 31 UCs of Pattoki. "It will ensure effectiveness and sustainability of the water treatment plant through social networking and capacity building of the schools and communities including Women and Youth in targeted areas". Said Mr. Sung, The Resident Representative KOICA.

"Youth and Community Leaders are essential to sustainable community development. We had completed similar project with Institute of Rural Management-IRM for sustainable management and mobilization of Water Supply Schemes in Mandi Bahuddin last year. We had trained more than hundred community members, 44 school teachers and thousands of students on WASH and Community Development." Mr. Mohsin briefed the participants.

Dr. Akram, Dr. Saboor and Dr. Qazi appreciated the initiatives and assure quality of training in Pattoki. On the ocassion, Dr. Akram Shaikh President KAAP, Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor KAAP Member, Dr. Athar Qayyum Qazi (Ex-Deputy Secretary Economic Affairs Division and Medical Consultant) and Mr. Mohsin Khan (Program Coordinator and KAAP Advisory Member for Water, Agri. & Rural Development) witnessed the ceremony.

tv_interview(April 1st, 2015 Islamabad) The Resident Representative KOICA Pakistan Mr. Sung Choonki, gave an interview to Pakistan First Science and Technology TV "Tech TV" and Newspaper "Technology Time" at KOICA Office Pakistan. On the occasion of 24th Anniversary of KOICA, he expressed his gratitude to Government of Pakistan and assured the Republic of Korea and KOICA support for socio-economic development of Pakistan. He briefly explained about South Korea rapid and unprecedented socio-economic development, technological advancement due to visionary leadership, people's commitment & effective S&T and Educational policies. He also introduced KOICA activities, Role of KAAP in bringing Pakistan and Korean people together and sharing knowledge for social and economic welfare of Pakistan.

Mr. Sung and Dr. M. Akram Shaikh briefly introduced about the KOICA activities, success stories in development aid projects, technical programs, KAAP and Education support fund for poor students and future projects in Capacity building of youth bases small medium enterprises in Pakistan. Mr. Mohsin Khan Program Coordinator KOICA briefed about scholarship program announced for government officials for the year 2015.
