KOICA Lahore Regional Workshop

KAAP held one day workshop in lahore on the sprite of How to Implement Saemoul Undong successful model in punjab. Regional Alumni members attended that workshop. Punjab Governemnet started Seamoul Undong in 2400 Villages in Punjab. In this early stage constructed Village commeties in all these villages.

Mr.Shahid Farid,  Vice President  KOICA  Alumni  Pakistan/ Additional  Secretary, LG&CD  Department Punjab  in  his  inaugural  address  welcomed  to all the participants to  participate  in  the  meeting.  He said  that  Korea  exposure  visit  was  a  wonderful  experience  where  we  learnt  a  lot.  He further  said  that  LG&CD  Department  Punjab  has  taken  a  lot  of  initiatives  regarding  uplift of  rural  Punjab.  He  said  that  it  has  planned  to  organize  the  rural  communities  as  well  as  local  leadership  to  participate  in  the  developmen t process  under  the  New  sae-meaul  spirit  to  attain  the  target  of  the  prosperity  of  rural  dwellers. He  further  said  that KOICA  Alumni  is  a  very  effective  forum  to  develop  synergies  and  devising  the  wayforward  to  ensure  sustainable  rural  development.

He  said  that  exposure  visit  to  Korea  was  a  rich  experience  particularly  spirit  of  sae-maeul  Undong  revolves  around  the  community  governance  and  decision  making  by  the  local  leadership. He  further  added  that  while  sensitization  and  mobilization  of  the  local  communities,  the  process  should  be  followed  through  conducting  a  series  of  dialogues  and  no  undue   expectation  be  created  among  the  communities,  otherwise  the  concept  of  self-help  will  be  shaken.

Regional KOICA Alumni Karaci Workshop

pic2On Nov. 14th, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Pakistan has held a workshop to draw up a plan to introduce and apply Saemaul Undong to Pakistan. 15 KOICA Pakistan Alumni members, including Mr.Shahmir Khan Bhutto Finance Department Karachi, Mr.Azhar Ahmed Deputy Secretary of Health Department Sindh from Sindh region have participated in the workshop, ‘Introducing Saemaul Undong in Pakistan and had heated discussion regarding on A Way Forward & Lesson Learnt'. KOICA Director General Mr.Sung Choonki and Program Manager Mr.Adnan Wadood were representatives from KOICA.

All Alumni members shared their experiences in Korea and also how they used that knowledge in Pakistan. They emphasized leadership of previous president Park Chung-hee to make Aid receiving country to Aid providing country during short span of time. Korea achieved economic development through implementing Saemaul Undong in 1970s and also could expand infrastructure in every field such as Transportation system, Communication, Science & Technology and most importantly Industries.

Alumni members said that education system is the core element of the economic development of Korea and added that improved education system will contribute greatly on the economic development of Pakistan. Participants of the workshop concluded that Korean development model should be adopted in Pakistan to seek social and economic development of Pakistan.

KOICA Sindh Regional alumni association was formed after the workshop and Mr.Shamir Khan Bhutto, Finance Department Karachi was selected as a Sindh Regional President of KOICA Alumni Association Pakistan. Also Dr.Zubair Ahmed Agha and Ms.Hina Manzoor was elected as Sindh Regional Vice President and Dr.Sikandar Ali has been elected as Sindh Regional General Secretary. Mr.Shamir Khan Bhutto said "Pakistan should model themselves after the leadership and economic development policies of Korea. And the participants siad that, each members of alumni from all levels of society are willing to make an endeavor for amicable cooperation of the two countries, and for the successful implementation of KOICA projects" in his inaugural address.

Currently, KOICA provides about 10 million dollars of grant aid on a annual basis, and approximately 80 trainees participate in KOICA's training program each year that now it alumni members reached over 1,000.

Upon the workshop as opportunity, KOICA Pakistan is planning to cooperate in harness with the Pakistan government and relevant parties in a sustainable manner to adopt the Korean economic development model such as Saemaul Undong, and to contribute on the socio-economic development of Pakistan.

Saemul Undong (New Village Moment) to Punjab Province

Introduction of Saemaul Undong (New village movement) to Punjab province, Pakistan as the first Islamic country.

On Oct. 20th, Korea International Cooperation Agency(KOICA) Pakistan has held a workshop to draw up a plan to introduce and apply Saemaul Undong to Pakistan. 17 government officials from Punjab province have participated in this workshop, and had heated discussion. Mr. Sung Choonki, the Director General of KOICA Pakistan began the workshop with his opening remark, and said that "Saemaul Undong will contribute greatly on social and economic development of Pakistan."  

Mr. Dawood Muhammad, secretary of Punjab government said that "I could learn a lot about Korea's economic development and Saemaul Undong through the KOICA training program that i have participated on last August." And he further said that "successful implementation of Saemaul Undong is attributed to voluntary participation and passion of the nation, and Saemaul Undong has high potential to be adopted in Pakistan as it became a reliable foundation of successful economic development of Korea." Also, he added that "now, the introduction of the rural areas and community development model to 4 regions of Punjab province is on its planning stage."  

Participants of the workshops concluded that Saemaul Undong should be adopted in accordance with local residents' demand and their voluntary participation to develop community, along with the reformation of their consciousness and business to increase income.
