[On OCT 16, 2015 KOICA Alumni Association of Pakistan (KAAP) & Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), official donor agency of the Republic of Korea held an Annual Alumni reception 2015. More than 120 higher government official from different Government Ministries attended the program.
Mr. Sung Choon-Ki, the KOICA Resident Representative Pakistan said, in the technical cooperation program, more than 80 Government officials have participated in 20 different trainings programs in Korea. We had successfully established regional alumni associations in Peshawar and organized four workshops in Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi and Islamabad. Now we have more than one thousand alumni and numbers are increasing every year. I appreciate their participation in KOICA activities in Pakistan. We will soon complete the Waste Water Treatment Plant at Kasur, which will improve health and sanitation indicators in Punjab.
Secondly, Pak-Korea ICT Center in Islamabad will also be functional this year. This project aims to provide Advanced ICT training programs to Pakistani peoples. As well, Center for Agriculture and Livestock Technology in Rawalpindi will improve living condition of the farmers in Pakistan. Apart from these projects, KOICA has initiated the project of “Technical Textile Research Center” in Faisalabad and project for capacity building of Small Medium Enterprise, which will play significant role in sustainable development of Pakistan.
H.E the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Prof. Dr. Song Jong-hwan while addressing to the alumni said during my tenure as ambassador, the Korean Prime Minister and Speaker of parliament visited Pakistan for the first time in history. And, on 27th September, the Korean President and your President had a summit meeting on the 70th UN General Assembly Session in New York. The two leaders discussed avenues of enhancing bilateral and multilateral ties.
Korean dramatic socio-economic development is often described as “Miracle on Han River” but this transformation never came overnight.
Thanks to the strong and visionary leadership and cohesion among peoples, that today, Korea has transformed into World 13th economy and from an aid recipient to donor Country.
It is my wish to see a similar ‘Miracle of the Indus River’ in Pakistan. God has given Pakistan the second highest mountain in the world as well as a deep sea like the Indian Ocean. Pakistan has a strategic location, abundant natural resources, population and land. Pakistan also has talented and skilled labor. All these reasons convince me Pakistan can achieve its own ‘Miracle of the Indus River’. Korea is fully prepared to assist Pakistan in achieving this miracle by sharing our experience and resources through KOICA and EDCF.
You are a great source of Korea and Pakistan and you can play a significant role in developing your country. You are friends of Korea and can work prominently in linking two nations and developing an everlasting relationship in the future. I wish more strengthening friendship and continuing cooperation between our countries.
Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, President KOICA Alumni Association of Pakistan said that This year is the first time regional alumni associations are formed & activated to impart their important role in enhancing bilateral relation between Korea & Pakistan. This year we also organized a workshop on Application of KOICA's Training Program for Socio-Economic Development of Pakistan" with the help of KOICA office.
Mr. Abdul Rehman Khan Training Coordinator said that currently, approximately 100 trainees participate in KOICA’s training program each year and as you know KOICA alumni members reached over 1,000.
